18k Yellow Gold Colombian Emerald and Diamond Checkerboard Plaque Ring c.1900.
Forged at the very end of the Victorian era, this magnificent plaque ring is as dazzling as an antique treasure can be. Twelve old European cut diamonds (for a total of 1.8 carats) and twelve emerald-cut Colombian emeralds (2 carats in all) form an opulent checkerboard that sits atop an 18-karat yellow gold band. And while this ring seemingly blends visual elements of both Oz and Wonderland, it is undoubtedly a statement ring that found immense adoration twenty years later in the sort of real-life jazz and champagne-soaked settings that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald.
